More options for allergy-friendly personal hygiene products

Personal hygiene products are an essential part of daily life, especially for those of us working in fields where hygiene is of the utmost importance, such as healthcare, foodservice, or food industry. Good hand hygiene helps us maintain cleanliness, comfort, and overall well-being.

From hand soaps to body lotions and hand disinfectants, these products come into direct contact with our skin every day. However, for those with sensitive skin, the wrong choice can lead to irritation, dryness, or even allergic reactions. This causes not only discomfort but also compromised hygiene.  That’s why it’s crucial for personal hygiene products to be formulated with gentle ingredients and tested for skin compatibility. Allergy-certified products provide an added layer of reassurance, ensuring they are free from common irritants and suitable for even the most delicate skin types.

For a long time already, most of Kiilto’s Erisan Pro personal hygiene products have proudly carried the Allergy label, granted by the Finnish Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation. This label indicates that the product doesn’t contain fragrances or commonly sensitizing or irritating substances.

Today we’re pleased to announce that several products in our Plum and DAX ranges are now certified with the AllergyCertified label. This applies to the majority of unscented soaps and creams, meaning you can use these products without concern for unnecessary chemicals and with a reduced risk of allergic reactions. In addition, the allergy certified products include three hand disinfectants from DAX, and these are Sweden’s first professional hand disinfectants with an allergy certification. We understand how important skin-friendly products are — both at work and in your free time.

Why choose AllergyCertified?

AllergyCertified is an international certification that makes it easy for you to choose skin-friendly products. When you see the AllergyCertified label, it means the product has been thoroughly tested for allergenic substances, fragrances, and unnecessary chemicals.

To obtain certification, each product is reviewed by experts who examine all ingredients to ensure they are gentle and safe for the skin. This includes substances suspected of being hormone-disrupting or otherwise harmful. AllergyCertified is therefore a health label that not only focuses on allergens but also conducts broader testing.

Contact allergies are more common than ever

Skin allergies are an increasing problem. In fact, around 27 % of adults in Europe have a skin allergy, with even higher prevalence among women. Many children are also exposed early to potentially harmful substances in skincare and cleaning products.

There is a growing trend in our society where we use significantly more products than before, leading to greater exposure. Contact allergies are environmentally induced, meaning anyone can develop them over time. The greater the exposure and concentration of a given substance, the higher the risk of developing contact allergies.

It is essential to keep in mind that the total concentration from all used products can contribute to allergic reactions. Therefore, it is always a good idea to alternate between different products to reduce exposure.

Employer responsibility: how to reduce the risk of skin allergies

At home, you have full control over your choices, but selecting allergy-tested products at work can be a challenge. It is the employer’s responsibility to choose effective yet mild and preferably allergy-certified products for employees.

If you are unsure about the products used in your workplace, consider discussing this with your occupational health representative. In the long run, this will reduce the risk of skin problems and related sick days — a win-win situation.

Can contact allergies be prevented?

Yes, to a large extent! One of the best ways to avoid contact allergies is to choose products free from allergenic substances. However, with over 4,000 known allergens, finding the right products can be overwhelming. Fortunately, allergy certifications make it easy — when you see the label, you can be sure the product has been tested and approved by experts.

The future of hygiene products – a safe choice for everyone

We continuously work to improve our products, making them even gentler on both you and the environment. With the AllergyCertified label for Plum and DAX, we are setting a new standard for skin-friendly hygiene — so you can use our products with confidence.
